WAS/UNFPA Out-of-School CSE Workshop participants in Bogotá, Colombia

WAS/UNFPA Out-of-School CSE Workshop in Bogotá, Colombia

On September 26th, a landmark workshop titled "Sexuality Education: Experiences to Feel and Think About" was held in Bogotá, Colombia as part of WAS's project with UNFPA.

This workshop was part of WAS's activities to develop the Global Status Report on Out-of-School Comprehensive Sexuality Education, carried out in partnership with UNFPA. The workshop had two main objectives:

  • Contributing to capacity building for out-of-school CSE stakeholders in Colombia
  • Generating relevant input for the Colombian Case Study, which will be included in the Global Status Report on Out-of-School Comprehensive Sexuality Education

Catalina Arango, WAS Consultant, Esther Corona WAS Project Lead, MariaIsabel Cardona, UNFPA Colombia focal point for CSE

The workshop was attended by over twenty CSE stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including representatives from the Ministries of Health and Education, professionals and activists working with people living with disabilities, youth from across Colombia, and migrants from vulnerable populations.

Participants learned about the current state of official CSE in Colombia and its regulations, as well as the state of the art in Latin America. They shared details about their programs and initiatives and discussed strategies to move forward.

The workshop provided an ideal setting for exchanging experiences, strengthening existing alliances, and forging new partnerships. This model could be replicated in future case studies.

This custom-designed t-shirt celebrates the leaders who have paved the way for advancing CSE across the region. It was created as a special tribute to the pioneers of CSE in Latin America and Colombia, and features our beloved Esther Corona!

The workshop was led by María Isabel Cardona (UNFPA Colombia focal point for CSE), Catalina Arango (Out-of-school CSE consultant), and Esther Corona (WAS project lead), with strong support from the UNFPA Colombia country office team and its Director, Luis Mora.
