For many years, WAS supported a Middle East Committee, but recognizing the unique needs and challenges of the East Mediterranean, we have now established the East Mediterranean Federation of Sexual Health (EMFeSH). This federation ensures that the priorities of this region are represented and advocated on the global stage. The formation of EMFeSH was led by Dr. Faysal El Kak, nominated by the WAS Executive Committee as the federation's inaugural president. Together with an exceptional board of founding members, Dr. El Kak has united leaders from across the East Mediterranean, bringing a wealth of expertise to advance sexual health in the region. EMFeSH represents a vital step in ensuring the voices and needs of the East Mediterranean are firmly included in our global agenda, and we look forward to its contributions to advancing sexual health. | | Intersex Day of Solidarity – November 8 | | | | As we approach Intersex Day of Solidarity on November 8, WAS reaffirms its commitment to advancing understanding, respect, and inclusion for intersex individuals in Sexual Health, Rights, Justice, and Pleasure. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for the rights of intersex people, who often face unique health challenges and social stigma. It is vital to recognize that intersex children have the right not to be subjected to non-emergency surgeries. Such interventions should only occur if they are life-saving or medically necessary, ensuring that decisions about bodily autonomy are respected and supported as they grow older. We encourage our members and friends to deepen their understanding of intersex issues, promote awareness, and advocate for inclusive practices within their communities and professions. | | Thank you for your continued dedication to promoting Sexual Health, Rights, Justice and Pleasure worldwide.
