Investing in Women = Changing the World

Dear WAS Members and Friends,

On March 8, the world marked International Women's Day (IWD) under the theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment."

This year's theme is a call to action—to demand equal rights, power, and opportunities for every woman and girl, everywhere. But gender equality is not just a one-day conversation. The fight against poverty, discrimination, and barriers to education, healthcare, and autonomy requires sustained investment and collective action.

CSW69: A Critical Moment for Women's Rights

Starting March 10, the 69th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) convenes in New York, marking a milestone moment for gender equality and women's empowerment.

This year's session will review the progress made on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted 30 years ago—a landmark framework that remains the most comprehensive global agenda for advancing gender equality.

At CSW69, thousands of government leaders, civil society organizations, experts, and activists will come together to set strategies, policies, and investments that will shape the future of women's rights worldwide.

Key discussions will focus on:
✔ The progress and setbacks in implementing the Beijing Declaration.
✔ The structural barriers still preventing full gender equality.
✔ The financial commitments needed to advance women's rights.

At a time when gender equality is under threat in many regions, CSW69 is a critical opportunity to demand action, investment, and accountability from global leaders.

Participants at the opening session will include:
🗣 Sima Bahous – Executive Director, UN Women
🗣 António Guterres – Secretary-General of the United Nations
🗣 Philemon Yang – President of the United Nations General Assembly

WAS stands in solidarity with those advocating for stronger commitments to gender justice, reproductive rights, and bodily autonomy at CSW69.
